Monday, 5 January: Norway’s Zabo Racing has confirmed that they will field a new line up in 2015 with Swedish businessman Niclas Johansson taking over driving duties from Ugur Isik to partner Christian Zaborowski.
The news heralds a new era for the team that finished as World number two for the last two years and last year also finished as runners-up in the European Championship. “We are extremely grateful to Ugur for his valuable contribution to the success that the team has achieved over the last four years,” said team owner Jan Zaborowski. “The team is now looking forward to an exciting and fruitful future with Niclas who brings with him his experience from racing drag boats and catamarans in various events in the USA and Sweden and with this new association we look forward to achieving our goal - to be on the top step of the podium.”
Of is impending debut in the ClassOne World Championship Niclas Johansson said. “I have had my eyes on racing in Class 1 for a number of years and have been tempted to take part, but until now the opportunity has not been there. When I met Jan [Zaborowski] he opened the door to the realisation of my dreams.”
Ugur [Isik] joined Zabo Racing in 2011 and was fundamental in their success and rise up the ranks; he made his Class 1 debut in 1998 taking one podium from 19 starts over two years. During his time with Zabo Racing that kicked off in Abu Dhabi in 2011 he competed in a further 30 races finishing on the podium ten times.
