Thursday, 25 June: Team Abu Dhabi has revealed it is planning to run two boats this season in their quest to try to wrest the UIM Class 1 World title from their UAE rivals in Dubai.
At this stage and with the first race in Salerno Italy on 8-9 July, the team is yet to confirm the driver line-ups but will select from a strong pool including American aces John Tomlinson and Gary Ballough and how grown talent of Faleh Al Mansoori, Rashed Al Tayer and Majid Al Mansoori.
Team Manager Randy Scism confirmed they will run the MTI from last season but with Lamborghini SCAM engines and a new MTI that will be shipped from the USA running the Mercury 850.
Tomlinson and Ballough were drafted in by the team to race in Italy and Abu Dhabi putting the MTI on the podium three times to take fourth overall in the Championship standings.
Tomlinson from Miami, Florida is no stranger to Class 1 or Team Abu Dhabi; he made his debut in 1997 racing alongside Laith Pharaon in Jolly Motor, winning four times and finishing second twice to lift the World and European Championships.
In 2010 he returned to Class 1 to take the throttles alongside Rashed Al Tayer at the Italian Grand Prix, the duo taking the Team’s first win on their home waters at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix then grabbing their first pole position, again at their home Grand Prix, in 2011.
