Wednesday, 8 July: Arif Al Zaffain and Nadir bin Hendi will be in unfamiliar surroundings for the first two races of the 2015 ClassOne World Powerboat Championship taking place in Salerno, Italy racing in a boat leased from Mauro D’Alessio.
The World Champions will start the defence of their title in a Victory built boat, but not their Championship winning hull, but have the comfort of knowing that it is their [Victory] engine package powering them.
Facing the Champions is Giovanni Carpitella who teams-up with flamboyant Brit Miles Jennings taking the wheel of LFF10, the sole entry from Fendi Racing, with Zabo Racing’s Christian Zaborowski joined for the first time by Class 1 newcomer Niclas Johansson.
Team Abu Dhabi will run a pair of MTIs running both Mercury and SCAM power-plants, but have yet to confirm their line-up, names in the frame are Americans John Tomlinson and Gary Ballough and a trio of Emirati’s, Rashed Al Tayer, Faleh Al Mansoori and Majed Al Mansoori.
Organisers are yet to confirm whether or not the V1 mono-hulls will also race in tandem with the Catamarans on the closed course, or will compete in Leg 8 of the Venezia Monte Carlo from Salerno to Formia tomorrow.
First practice and qualifying takes place today at 10.00hrs [local, with Race 1 at 15.00hrs.
