Tuesday, 01 November: The organisers of the UIM Class 1 World Championship which takes place in Abu Dhabi in the UAE on 21-25 November have confirmed a three race format.
The return to a one venue three-race format to decide the Class 1 world title was first introduced in 1977 and last run in 1991, has been readopted as the sport undergoes a transitionary period ahead of an announcement by the sport’s governing body the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) regarding the appointment of a new promoter for the C1 and V1 World Championships.
The timetable which has been issued by the host club, the Abu Dhabi International Marine Sports Club (ADIMSC) and agreed by the UIM, includes qualifying and races on 22, 24 and 25 November with the addition of the ‘Kilo Run’ taking place on the 23rd.
The organisers will be confirming the entry list in the coming weeks and anticipate teams from Dubai, Belgium, Norway and Italy to take on the defending world champions Abu Dhabi who will field a two boat line up.
