Monday, 7 November: Norway’s Zabo Racing has confirmed an exciting new line up in their bid to win the 2016 UIM Class 1 World Championship taking place in Abu Dhabi in the UAE on 21-25 November.
The all new driver pairing sees the experienced Italian throttleman Giovanni Carpitella teaming-up with Britain’s Ian Blacker who will make his Class 1 debut behind the wheel. “This is an exciting opportunity for the team with a very international focus and set-up,” says team manager Oivind “Simon” Dreier Sivertsen. “The difficult circumstances of the last 12 months and the transition of the sport ahead of the appointment of a new promoter by the UIM, has resulted in both Christian Zaborowski and Niclas Johansson being committed to other business projects and unable to continue their racing activities this year.
“Giovanni is a highly respected throttleman who we have competed against for many years and the opportunity arose for him to join the team in Abu Dhabi at the same time as Ian was looking to break into Class 1.”
Zabo Racing has an impressive record in the Class 1 World Championship, finishing as runners-up in 2013 and 2014, with Carpitella returning with this new team to the venue where he won the 2015 Class 1 Pole Position Championship and finished third overall in the World Championship alongside Luca Formilli Fendi.
