The
Class 1 World Powerboat Championship is highly competitive
and one of the most dramatic series in international
marine-motorsport. It is dynamic and spectacular,
glamorous and evocative. A sport fuelled by adrenaline
and passion - if you want real racers you go to
the sea.
Class 1 sets the standards with state-of-the-art
boat design and leading-edge technology pushing
the barriers and extending the boundaries of the
modern-day racers who remain a breed apart in
professional sport in their relentless pursuit
of competitive excellence against their oldest
rival - the sea.
The 2008 championship looks set to be one of
the most open and fiercely contested for almost
a decade. Ten boats will compete for the coveted
Class 1 World title and the prospect of a spectacular
season’s racing is fuelled by new driver
line-ups and one of the most competitive fleets
to line up for many a season.
The championship is an international affair with
teams and competitors from England, France, Italy,
Norway, Qatar, Spain and the UAE competing in
eight races across Scandinavia, northern and southern
Europe and the Middle East.
Each Class 1 powerboat is capable of speeds in
excess of 160 mph/255kmh, weighs approx 5000kgs,
is 42ft in length and powered by two 8.2litre,
V12s or 9.1litre V8s.
